Affordable and Effective Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment in Thailand

Prescription drug addiction is becoming an ever-growing problem worldwide. Drugs such as OxyContin, Vicodin, Valium and Xanax are among the most widely abused prescription drugs globally and the effects can be devastating.  It is this situation that necessitates the high volumes of individuals who seek prescription drug addiction treatment.

The Start of Prescription Drug Addiction

In many cases, prescription drug addiction begins when a person is prescribed drugs by their own physician. OxyContin and Vicodin are opiates typically prescribed for pain management, while Valium and Xanax are the most common types of benzodiazepines prescribed for stress or anxiety disorders. Both types of drugs are commonly abused because of their ability to make the user feel intensely calm and relaxed.

These types of drugs are also highly addictive for this reason. When taken repeatedly, these drugs can alter the brain’s reward system by flooding it with dopamine, causing an addiction to the drug to form.

Types of Treatment for Prescription Drug Addiction

Both inpatient and outpatient are viable for prescription drug addiction, depending on the severity of the addiction. Outpatient treatment is typically reserved for those addicts who have not yet ‘lost everything’ and are able to maintain day-to-day obligations while receiving treatment.

For those suffering from a more severe addiction, inpatient treatment is recommended.

Benefits of Inpatient Opioid Dependence Treatment

Attending residential rehab has many benefits for prescription drug addicts who are seeking treatment, including the following:

Secure, secluded location
For many addicts, it is necessary to remove themselves from the people, places and events in their daily lives which encourage using. At residential treatment, clients are far from any triggers and are surrounded by people who understand what they are going through.

Group and one-on-one counselling therapy
An integral part of addiction treatment lies in taking part in both group and one-on-one counselling therapy to get a better understanding of the disease of addiction and how to cope with it through recovery.

Wide selection of treatment therapies
Residential rehab offers the opportunity for a variety of therapies aside from counselling. These can include but are not limited to art therapy, drama therapy, yoga, mindfulness meditation, physical fitness and more.

Freedom to heal
Receiving addiction treatment at a residential rehab could be compared to staying at an all-inclusive resort (if we forgot about the actual treatment part). All meals are prepared and served to clients, activities and excursions are available and there is staff available 24 hours a day to assist clients with recovery. This provides clients with an optimal environment to truly focus on their addiction recovery.

Of course, all treatment is backed by 100% confidentiality.

Is Medically Supervised Detox Necessary?

The withdrawal symptoms from opiate prescription drugs will no doubt be uncomfortable, but they are not life-threatening. Withdrawal from benzodiazepines, however, can be dangerous. Quitting benzodiazepines ‘cold turkey’ can cause severe seizures which can be life-threatening, which is why a medically supervised detox is recommended for these prescription drugs.
