Carla-Renee Sherwood (Carla) (Post Grad Dip.)
Registered Psychologist
Australia

Carla joined The Cabin in April 2018 from Australia where she trained and became a registered psychologist. Over the past six years, Carla has been working with a wide range of clients, assisting them with their trauma, addiction and mental health issues. She has primarily worked with Mental Health & Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Services (MH & ATODS) and also in private practice for 12 months. Carla has trained and worked with a range of difference therapies including CBT, ACT and Mindfulness & DBT. Carla also recently trained in Level 2 for EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) which assists her to work with clients whose lives have been negatively impacted by unresolved traumatic memories and experiences and help them process these. Carla has also worked with a 12-month DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) program specifically designed to treat people with Borderline Personality Disorder. Carla has primarily trained with Russ Harris in ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) which helps clients to build skills to be able to learn how to accept and deal with their difficult thoughts, feelings and emotions, rather than trying to escape or get rid of them (through various addictive behaviours). She is passionate about mindfulness meditation to help clients improve impulsivity, increase their emotional self-regulation and improve their distress tolerance.
