The Cabin’s Inaugural Alumni Reunion 2014
After four years in operation, The Cabin Chiang Mai fittingly chose Valentine’s Day to hold its first Alumni Reunion. And you could literally feel the love and happiness in the air as former clients, who had flown in from all corners of the world, enthusiastically greeted each other and The Cabin staff.
The event, which was attended by both former and current clients, started with morning tea – allowing alumni to catch up with their peers and counsellors before a welcome speech by Programme Director Alastair Mordey. Three of our alumni – Russell, Tay and Carrie then took to the stage to give updates of their progress in recovery and how their experience at The Cabin had helped transform their lives, to an appreciative and visibly moved audience.
The day moved on to a Sharing Session where alumni and current clients, encouraged by their counsellors, generously and courageously stood up and shared very personal experiences – bringing tears to many eyes while offering inspiration to current clients to stick with the programme. Then came the graduate ceremony where each alumni was presented with a medal inscribed with The Cabin’s famous catchphrase “What’s my part?”, the question counsellors are always having clients ask themselves – so as to remind them to examine their actions and reactions because self-examination is an integral part of the recovery process.
It was then time to close with a serenity prayer and a cheerful group photo before enjoying a delicious celebratory lunch on our beautiful riverside lawns.
