The Cabin’s Alumni Reunion 2016
On February 10th we celebrated our third Alumni Reunion – a half-day celebration to mark our former clients’ progress in recovery and encourage them to continue their successful journeys.
The event opened with a welcome speech by Programme Director Alastair Mordey, author of The Cabin’s highly effective and hugely successful treatment programme Recovery Zones. Then two of our alumni – Dominick and Gurjeet – took to the podium to generously share their recovery journeys with their peers as well as our current clients who were also in attendance at the function. This was followed by a celebratory lunch featuring an international buffet, during which former clients reconnected with their counsellors while enjoying traditional Thai dances as entertainment.
After lunch, The Cabin’s head counsellor Rory Magee also shared amusing yet memorable moments from his own 20+ year recovery journey with the crowd. Then came the highlight of the day – a lucky draw of Recovery Encouragement Gifts – generously brought by the alumni for The Cabin’s current clients as a token of encouragement to stick with treatment. The alumni were also presented with reunion souvenirs in the form of custom-made luggage tags – alluding to their recovery journeys and how they must keep travelling on.
Clients and counsellors then participated in a “Clean Time Countdown”, where each person counted the years, months or weeks they have stayed sober to rounds of encouraging applause. It was then time to bring the happy event to a close with a Serenity Prayer.
